Software Engineer (North America – various locations)

Axiell is the global leader in Vital Records software with customers in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the USA. Our software solutions allow government entities to manage the storage and use of vital statistics information including life event data (births, deaths, and marriages), certificate security, data transfers between government entities, and fraud prevention.

We are looking for a Software Engineer with strong communication skills to join our team developing applications to manage vital records in a government setting. Reporting to the Head of Registries and Vital Records, you will participate in the development of our applications and be available to answer questions about the application and communicate with the product team about client concerns and suggestions. You will be part of a distributed product and project team. The position could be located in Canada (Montreal or Toronto) or the USA (San Juan PR, Washington DC, or Jackson MS).

Our team works in a fast-paced, agile development environment developing both inward and outward facing web applications. Our engineers work alongside other development disciplines, including quality assurance, user interface design, and project management. Developers participate actively in projects, taking part in decisions affecting project scope, innovation, design, direction, and client readiness and are expected to demonstrate project ownership and accountability.

To qualify for this role, you will need:

  • Good understanding of object-oriented and web-based software development in ASP.NET and C#

  • Solid understanding of and experience with HTML, CSS, and Javascript

  • Solid understanding of SQL, data manipulation, database schemas, and concepts

  • Experience with Agile / Scrum methodologies is desirable

  • Experience with Entity Framework, unit testing, and IIS is a plus

  • Expertise with Java, mobile app development, React and other technologies is a plus

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or related field

  • Development experience with programming languages

  • SQL database or relational database skills

  • Applicants invited for an interview will be expected to demonstrate basic programming knowledge by completing a written programming test followed by a PI evaluation.

  • Develop quality software and web applications

  • Analyze and maintain existing software applications

  • Design highly scalable, testable code

  • Discover and fix programming bugs

  • Perform other duties and special projects as required
